Our History

Christ the Servant Lutheran Church was organized and became a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) in 1980. At this time it called a Mission Developer Pastor.

The congregation at that time consisted of approximately 30-40 families who worshiped at the nearby Reed Elementary School in Allen. The original mission statement of the congregations was: "We are the body of Christ the Servant, where human needs of hope, help and home are met by celebrating the love of Christ with the whole world through caring, sharing and teaching ministries."

Construction of the original church building on property purchased on Greenville Avenue began in 1985 and was completed in May, 1987.

Throughout its 34 year history, the congregation of Christ the Servant Lutheran Church has been instrumental in establishing the Allen Ministerial Alliance which includes a food bank serving residents of Allen, Fairview and Lucas. In addition, Christ the Servant has continued to support many other service organizations in Allen and McKinney including the Samaritan Inn, the only homeless shelter in Collin County.

Improvements to Christ the Servant's building were made as the congregation continued to grow including modifications to its fellowship hall, the addition of a gathering area in the narthex, and a two-story education wing.

Commitment and service to the communities which surround Christ the Servant has, and remains to be, the focal point of the congregation's ministries.

Pastor Gordon Illausky was called as the congregation's current pastor in 2006 who has continued to lead the congregation in new and additional programs and ministries.

Christ the Servant Lutheran Church continues to welcome visitors to its worship services every Sunday at 9:30.
