Children's Ministry

ChristKids is the name of our Children's Ministry, serving children ages 4-6th grade. Our Children's Ministry is led by Stephanie Howard.
Our children meet weekly for Sunday School at 10:45 am in the education building for a time of learning and hands on crafts to learn about the Bible and the world God created. ChristKids also meets for Sunday night Bible studies, attends mission trips, Vacation Bible School and other fun events. ChristKids strives to be a ministry of encouragement and support for parents to support their children on their faith journey.

Sunday School

ChristKids meets for Sunday School weekly at 10:45. Sunday school begins with snack and fellowship among the children and teachers, then everyone moves to the opening where the children get to sing and dance, play a game and see their weekly Bible story video, then our children break up into their Sunday school classrooms by age for an in depth age-appropriate discussion of the Bible story, hands-on use of their Bible, video recap and a hands on craft, all of our classes end in with a word prayer. Our teachers dedicate time preparing for their classes weekly, and praying for each of their students.
ChristKid's Sunday school program runs from September to May each year. Prekindergarten & Kindergarten: Barb Kio
First-Third Grade: Trevor Osmer & Ryan Akkerman
Fourth-6th Grade: Kim Andrews & Lynette Bohls
Our teachers are teaching using "Spark: Activate Faith" curriculum.
We would love to have your child join us!

Milestones of Faith

"Train a child in the way he should go. When he is old, he will not turn away from it." Proverbs 22
Milestones of Faith is a program that will begin at Christ the Servant this upcoming 2018-2019 school year. Our children will learn to follow Christ with the basics faith skills.
When our children are baptized, parents commit to raise their children to follow Jesus and teach them the basics of faith. Our children will learn the Lord's Prayer, the 10 Commandments, the Creeds, etc. These topics can be difficult for families to do on their own, so we've developed Milestones of Faith to help families connect with their children on the important parts of their faith. This allows families to grow together in their faith, making parents a strong pillar for their children. Our Milestones of Faith program is lead in partnership by Stephanie Howard and Kim Andrews.
-3 & 4 Year Olds: Lutheran Symbols-Learn the symbols of our faith
-Prekindergarten-Kindergarten: Prayer-Why and how we pray, and memorization of the Lord's Prayer
-1st Grade-3rd Grade: My 1st Bible & The 10 Commandments-receiving their first Bible in 1st grade, the kids learn the 66 books of the Bible, how to navigate through their Bible, and the laws God gave to us known as The 10 Commandments
-4th-6th Grade: Service, Stewardship & Sacraments-learning how God wants us to bless others by serving our community with a grateful heart, (5th Grade) taking a look into Communion and Baptism through First Communion, and understanding how God entrusts our time and talents so we can bless others

First Communion

Children entering or currently in 5th grade are invited to attend First Communion class with their parents. Our First Communion class has parents and children partner together as our children take a look into learning about Communion and Baptism through First Communion.

ChristKids Bible Study-Heros of the Bible

ChristKids Bible study begins August 2018 and will meet through May 2019. This coming school year, we will discover different heroes of the Bible from Noah to Ruth to Hezekiah to Paul. The Bible is filled with stories of ordinary people who had heroic faith and who, through God's power, performed some pretty amazing feats! All of their stories can inspire our children to live like true heroes of faith. Each week, we will dive into learning about a hero, then each week our children will have a devotion with their family learning together about another hero of the Bible. Our children will learn how to apply the stories from the heroes to their own lives, how many Bible heroes went through failure and triumph, then learn how to live like a hero to be a hero of God.
Our ChirstKids Bible Study group is using the book "Heroes of the Bible" by Joshua Cooley.

Vacation Bible School 2019-athens

Each summer, ChristKids (along with a lot of dedicated volunteers with helping hands) hosts an exciting Vacation Bible School. This coming summer, we will be hosting Athens-Paul's Dangerous Journey to Share the Truth! Our Sunday school teachers, nursery caregivers and volunteers, Director of Music and lots of volunteers get together and enjoy leading our members and community in an adventure. Our Children's Ministry is super excited about this amazing adventure! Vacation Bible School opens with everyone in the sanctuary singing and praising God, then the children rotate between Bible story, craft, snack and outside games. Each night, the children go home with a token that is a reminder of what they learned in Bible story. If you are a visitor, we invite your child to join us as well. Vacation Bible School is free and will be June 24th-June 28th, 6-8:30 at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church (821 S. Greenville Ave., Allen, TX 75002). Have your child bring a friend!

Mission Trips

Every other year, our Children's Ministry takes children on a mission trip in Austin, TX. This week long mission trip teaches children about how to help and serve others, how to think of others first, teaches children how to broaden their perspective, challenges their comfort zone, helps them to take ownership and initiative with their community. Our next mission trip is summer 2019! Children in 5th and 6th grade are welcome to attend.
